| Bio: | ![]() For the time being, I'm a grantwriter and anthropologist for the Nez Perce Tribe Senior Citizen's Program in Lapwai, ID. And before you ask, yes, I'm Native Hawaiian and Cherokee. I was raised outside of Native culture and this job is a great learning experience. Working with the Elders has given me some new perspectives on life, and I'm very grateful for this opportunity. I'm also a graduate student (currently taking a leave of absence) at the University of Montana, waiting to defend my thesis MA in Forensic Anthropology and Archaeology. My academic loves are dead people (new forensic cases to bioarchaeology working with folks who have been dead for thousands of years), dead cultures (mainly ancient Republican Rome, but I'll break for the Imperial stuff and the Greeks), and dead people's garbage (nothing quite like spending a summer up to one's armpits in an old west ghost town dump). My BA is in Anthropology and Classics from the University of Southern California, which is where I got the half-insane idea of figuring out a way to combine the two disciplines so that theory (the anthro side) didn't clash with what just *is* (the classics side) so that modern people could gain a deeper understanding of long dead people who have very much molded what Western society is today. I found bioarchaeology, which one of these years, when I get to work on my doctorate, I've got several ideas that I can't wait to explore. However, I've been offered the position of the Nez Perce Tribe's archaeologist, when I get my thesis defended, and this will offer me opportunities that I've never imagined. It's very much looking like I'll be moving on to a straight archaeology PhD program in this area, which is fine by me as well. When I'm not dealing with those who have passed or their materials, I play flute, dote on Bezoar my pet goldfish, collect and customize My Little Pony toys, fish, hike, and write. Speaking of which, the rejection letter portfolio keeps getting thicker, and reminds me that I'm actually working to see my name in print. I've actually gotten two stories published to date: Imagining Cape Henlopen in the 2007 issue of Transcendent Visions. Tendril of the Mind is forthcoming in May 2008. My genres are science fiction, medical thrillers, and horror. One of these days. Oh, one more thing. . . . Fight On! | |||||
